Midway Releases MAT: Deluxe Edition MK II Smoke Fix
Midway has released a second fix for the recently released Midway Arcade Treasures: Deluxe Edition for the PC. In the latest knowledge base update, the developers have issued the start button mapping bug that prevented the enabling of the hidden Smoke Battle and the random select feature in Mortal Kombat 2.
This patch follows the first update which added the background tracks back to every game in Midway Arcade Treasures 2.
The following patch has been developed to enable the Dan Forden "Toasty!" - Smoke Fight encounter in Mortal Kombat 2, on the Midway Arcade Treasures Deluxe Edition for the PC.
Download the Patch to your PC and then double click the patch file (Mat2mkPatch.exe). The patch will make the updates to your installed game that will enable both the Smoke Fight Easter Egg, as well as the random select feature from the character select screen.
In our previous mini review of MAT: Deluxe Edition, we documented the lack of addressing the start button mapping issue that plagued the initial console release of Midway Arcade Treasures 2 and the missing background tracks from every game in MAT 2. It was this same start button mapping issue that was rumored to be the sole reason why the PAL versions of Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks was missing the unlockable Mortal Kombat II bonus, due to Sony Europe's QA department rejection.
Now that these two major issues have been fixed, there still lingers the smaller issues of the flickering and missing player shadows and a minor sound problem with Kitana's fan attack when blocked by an opponent. Given that Midway and Digital Eclipse seem to be conscious of the issues that keep Mortal Kombat II from being arcade perfect, perhaps we could see these issues addressed in a future patch as well.
We have to applaud Midway for taking the time to address these issues in Midway Arcade Treasures: Deluxe Edition. With the erradication of these two major bugs, we start to tip towards the side of actually recommending a purchase of this title for the die-hard classic Mortal Kombat arcade fan, especially if you already have some decent PC gamepads.
